Nora was doing better, then the heat wave hit and Nora got sick. She has had a fever since Saturday and two pimples have turned into full blown infections. She is getting weary of being sick. She can’t stand not being able to do things or go out with friends. With the heat wave she was stuck in her room (the only one with AC) and the boredom just got to her.
We have been making lots of jewelry. With each design she gets better and better. She has been watching “How to” videos online and is attempting a beaded butterfly. She has plans to sell the jewelry for a $1 a piece then once she makes enough money she wants to move on to making stuffed animals that wear her jewelry. I told her the story of Xavier Roberts and Cabbage Patch Kids and she was bit by the folk art entrepreneurial bug.
She also started writing and illustrating a book. No title yet but its about starfish who dream. One wants to be a star in the sky, one wants to be a christmas tree star, another want to fly on the back of a butterfly and slide down a rainbow into a waterfall. No conclusion yet… It’s a work in progress.
The blood & bone marrow drive is this Tuesday, July 26th from 2:30-8:30PM at the Mastic Beach Property Owners Association 31 Neighborhood Road, Mastic Beach, NY 11951. Hope you can all join us! If you can not attend just give blood where you are. There are so many kids that need transfusions the numbers are staggering.
The MBPOA is having a raffle to pay for the bone marrow swabs. There are some really cool prizes (kayaks, boating supplies, spa basket etc…) to be raffled off at the MBPOA Crabfest on August 28th. If you can’t make the blood drive please buy a $10 raffle ticket. Send a tax deductible check to the MBPOA “Friends of Nora Getchell” at PO Box 212 Mastic Beach NY 11951 call 631-399-6111 for more information.
Please keep your prayers coming. We need a miracle.
